Turmeric & Liver — Friend or Foe? Let’s bust the myth.
In every Indian home, turmeric (Haldi) is love. It's tradition. It's healing.
But when it comes to liver health — even good things need science-backed wisdom.
As a liver specialist, I often meet patients who say:
*"Doctor, I take turmeric daily for liver detox…"*
Unfortunately, not every liver is ready for that.
What You Should Know:
Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties. It *can* support liver health — *but only in the right dose & in the right patient.*
When Turmeric Can Be Risky:
- If you already have liver disease (like cirrhosis or hepatitis)
- If you take high-dose turmeric capsules daily without supervision
- If you're a liver transplant recipient on medications
- If the turmeric is adulterated (common in unbranded powders)
Clinical Advice (Simple & Safe):
- Enjoy turmeric in food — *like grandma used to do*.
- Avoid taking turmeric supplements unless prescribed.
- Always check with your liver doctor before starting any herb or supplement — no matter how “natural” it seems.
- Choose pure, certified turmeric only.
Remember:
Natural doesn’t always mean safe for everyone.
Your liver deserves personalised care — not social media trends.
Science + Tradition = Safe Healing.
